Spring fever

April 13, 2019 / phillipsfarmbatavia / Leave a comment

“When the groundhog casts his shadow And the small birds sing And the pussywillows happen And the sun shines warm And when the peepers peep Then it is Spring” ― Margaret Wise Brown We wait for the sound of peepers around here as a sure sign of spring's arrival.  The thing is, those darn peepers love … Continue reading Spring fever

A New Generation of Foragers is Born

March 18, 2019March 18, 2019 / phillipsfarmbatavia / Leave a comment

The middle schoolers from the Xavier University Montessori Lab School have been coming out once each month this school year to spend a day learning and helping with a project.  Today's theme was "Signs of Spring." We started off the day by dividing into three groups.  Each was to search out as many signs of … Continue reading A New Generation of Foragers is Born

Cookie Decorating with a Holiday Cocktail

December 23, 2018 / phillipsfarmbatavia / Leave a comment

We enjoyed a fun evening with our neighbor Rita decorating the gingerbread men I made. Decorating was, of course, intermixed with eating... We managed to make it home with about half the cookies we started with 🙂 And for the adults, I made a festive cocktail with the cider I made from the last of … Continue reading Cookie Decorating with a Holiday Cocktail

A Magical Cake

July 31, 2018July 30, 2018 / phillipsfarmbatavia / Leave a comment

We went to our niece's first birthday party this weekend. She had a magical unicorn cake that her mother and grandmother tag-teamed. Mom made the cake and grandma decorated. It was both delicious and gorgeous! Lauren said she tried out a new recipe she'd seen on a Netflix cooking show called Momofuku cake. It has … Continue reading A Magical Cake

Let Them Be Wild and Free

July 22, 2018 / phillipsfarmbatavia / Leave a comment

We had our usual Sunday dinner with the family.  After dinner, little Bailey asked if we could go on the tire swing.  Landen went and got his boots on, his sign that he's ready to go see the chickens.  So off we went out into the yard. The tire swing is always a good time. … Continue reading Let Them Be Wild and Free

Kids Love Phillips Farm Eggs

April 3, 2018 / phillipsfarmbatavia / Leave a comment

A former co-worker of mine shared this picture with me with the message: "We love our eggs! Aggie ate the whole thing. Delicious!" You can see the double yolk stayed perfectly formed when the egg was hard boiled. We love feedback about our goods. Send me your pictures and I'll post them!

Sunday dinner fun

February 19, 2018February 19, 2018 / phillipsfarmbatavia / Leave a comment

We have been doing Sunday dinners at the farm pretty religiously for the last year. We have a list of about 6 family groups I email each week and ask who's coming. Not everyone comes every week but it's nice to see who we can. It's been a while since the families with little ones … Continue reading Sunday dinner fun

Shrinky Dink Ornaments

December 19, 2017 / phillipsfarmbatavia / 2 Comments

It has become a tradition in our house to make shrinky dinks this time of year.  They are a super easy project to do with kids, and you may even have everything you need already at your house! You'll need: Number 6 plastic sheets - raid your recycling bin; if you don't have any the … Continue reading Shrinky Dink Ornaments

A Gingerbread Tradition

December 18, 2017 / phillipsfarmbatavia / Leave a comment

I have written in the past about the tradition of making gingerbread men in my family.  My brother and I did it every year with my mom and really got into elaborate decorating.  We would take turns as the "icer" (spreading the icing) and the "decorator" (doing the sugars and other goodies).  I always … Continue reading A Gingerbread Tradition
