Rabbit Love

Love can take many shapes and sizes.

My newest love is a Holland Lop buck I’ve taken to calling Stormy. He is the softest, most chill and snuggly boy. He’s only five months old, but nearly full grown. We got him from a rabbitry about an hour and a half from our home, in Kentucky. He was the last of his litter to leave, born to a 4H rabbit project rabbit mom – the perfect addition to our farm, and the last remaining ingredient to get Oliver’s rabbit breeding project off to the races.

I brought Stormy to work with me on Friday for our spring party. He was a surprise special guest, and quite the fan favorite. I let him wander around our office in the morning before the party. He was curious and clean – checking out all the rooms but not leaving any traces behind. At the party, he let whomever wanted to pick him up and love on him. Everyone was wishing for some Stormy offspring when they arrive.

Speaking of Stormy offspring, the night we brought him home, Oliver put each of the females in with him. He knew just what to do! Now I understand the phrase “breeding like rabbits.” It’s all instinctual and he knew his job when that lady came in with him. When they finished, he tucked himself in under her for some spooning, such a romantic…

Assuming that first attempt was successful, we’ll have baby rabbits on April 18 or 19. I can’t wait to see how our girls do as first time moms.
